SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (2-5-0) suffered a 1-0 loss to Oregon State (4-2-0) on the SDSU Sports Deck Friday evening. The Beavers’ goal came on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 51st minute.
“It felt like another match that we kind of let slip through our fingers,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. “We’ve got to figure out how to defend set pieces, because it hasn’t been good enough.”
The Beavers nearly scored in the 82th minute after a flurry of three shots by Paul Fecteau. His first was destined for the back of the net but Cianole Nguepissi blocked it, then Vincent Fournier, who was making his first start in goal as an Aztec, made a quick reflex save.
After a scoreless first half, Oregon State scored in the 51st minute when Arnau Farnos bent in a free kick up and over the Aztec wall and into the far upper corner of the goal.
Fournier finished with three saves.
