SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s basketball head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced the hiring of Amie Callaway as the program’s Director of Operations. Callaway, who is a San Diego native and earned her master’s at San Diego State, was the Director of Operations for the UNLV women’s basketball team the past five seasons.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to bring Amie home to San Diego,” Terry-Hutson explained. “She has a wealth of experience that will add value to our program. She is driven, creative and passionate about women’s basketball. I am looking forward to her helping us elevate our program.”
"It's surreal to be back home and to be part of the Aztec staff under Coach Terry-Hutson," Callaway said. "Stacie knows what it takes for this program to excel, and I'm so thankful to be in the mix of it all.”
While on UNLV’s staff, the Lady Rebels won four Mountain West regular season championships and three Mountain West tournament titles.
This past season, she participated in the Future Basketball Operations Stars Program, an exclusive virtual training program offered by the NBA League Office targeting professional development for basketball operations professionals.
Prior to UNLV, Callaway was the Assistant Director of Operations for the Cal women's basketball team from 2017-19. In that role, she helped coordinate community service and outreach programs, planned events for the team and fans, while also assisting in recruiting efforts. In between her director of operations jobs, Callaway was an admissions counselor at UNLV.
Callaway played collegiately at UNLV from 2012-16, appearing in 123 games, making 75 starts and averaging 5.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. As a senior, she started all 32 games and averaged a career-high 7.1 rebounds per game.
Callaway was the only player in UNLV history to both play in and start a game while still 17 years old. She was also an excellent student, earning Academic All-Mountain West honors all four years, as well as Mountain West Scholar-Athlete recognition.
A standout at San Diego High, Callaway was named her division’s Player of the Year and helped lead her team to four straight league championships, as well as the CIF DI title her senior season. She finished her basketball career with a double-double average, and her 1,637 career rebounds is the second-highest total in CIF San Diego history. She also played three years of volleyball, earning all-league honors twice, and competed in track all four years, where she was a two-time league champion in both the shotput and discus while setting school records in both (40' 1.5” shot put, 124' discuss) her senior season.
Callaway received her bachelor's degree in hospitality management from UNLV in 2016, and her MBA, with a focus in sport management from San Diego State, in 2018.
