SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (1-2) returns to America’s Finest City for its annual match at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday night. The Aztecs will take on UC San Diego (1-1-1) at 7 p.m. in a match that will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
Last week, the Aztecs played at then-No. 2 Stanford, holding the Cardinal to three goals, half of their previous season average, which led the nation against DI opposition. The last time San Diego State played a home match, Victoria Miller scored in the seventh minute of a 1-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield on August 17.
UCSD has played three times this season, all at home. The Tritons opened the season with a 3-2 loss to California on August 14 before playing Northern Arizona to a scoreless draw on August 21. Last weekend, UC San Diego defeated UNLV 3-2.
SDSU is 2-1-2 against the Tritons all-time. The teams first met in 1990 and 1991 in La Jolla with the Aztecs winning 1-0 the first year before a tie in 1991. SDSU and UCSD have faced off again in each of the last three seasons. In 2022, they tied 2-2 on the SDSU Sports Deck. San Diego State emerged victorious by a 3-2 score in La Jolla in 2023 and the Tritons had their first ever win in the matchup last season by a 1-0 score on The Mesa.
San Diego State is back in action with a 3 p.m. match at Pepperdine on September 11 on ESPN+. The Aztecs will be on the SDSU Sports Deck on September 14 against UC Riverside at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network and admission to all matches on the Sports Deck is free.
