SAN DIEGO – San Diego State infielder Finley Bates was named to the CSC Academic All-District Baseball Team his performance in the classroom, as announced Tuesday by College Sports Communicators, formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be eligible for nomination to the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Division I Baseball Team, candidates must have at least a sophomore standing and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher, playing at least 90 percent of the team's competitions or starting at least 66 percent of the time. Additionally, pitchers must appear in at least 17 games or complete at least 35 innings.
A native of Castle Rock, Colorado, Bates started 56 of 57 games during the 2025 campaign, hitting .300 with one homer, 12 doubles and 23 RBIs. The Aztec sophomore also topped the squad with 48 runs scored and drew a conference-leading 40 walks.
Bates, who made 28 starts at second base, 22 at shortstop and six at designated hitter, ranked fourth on the team with two or more hits in 17 games and tied for the fourth spot with multiple RBIs in seven outings.
Bates ended the season with a six-game hitting streak when he led the team with a .500 batting average (13-26), contributing two doubles and one triple to go with four RBIs and eight runs scored.
Enrolled in the general business curriculum, Bates has accumulated a 3.59 grade point average at San Diego State.
The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
