NEW ORLEANS -- San Diego State’s Shaquena Foote was named a second-team All-America selection in the 400 meters, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced.

Foote came up 0.06 seconds short of qualifying for the 400-meter final of the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships last Thursday in Eugene, Oregon. Foote ran a time of 51.40 seconds in the semifinals, which was fifth in her heat and 11th overall out of 24 qualifiers. Florida State’s Kaelyaah Liburd nabbed the final qualifying spot after running a 51.35 in the first of three heats. Running in the second heat, LSU’s Ella Onojuvwevwo (50.31) and Arkansas’ Kaylyn Brown (50.91) finished first and second, respectively, and automatically advanced to Saturday’s final. Auburn’s Vimbayi Maisvorewa also moved on from the second heat with a time of 50.19, one of the three next-fastest times besides the automatic qualifiers. Foote tied South Carolina’s Zaya Akins but was edged out for 10th by 0.006 thousandths (51.393 to 51.399).

Athletes of member institutions who finished in the top-8 of their respective individual events and relays at the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Eugene took home first-team All-America honors, while those who placed ninth through 16th individually and as part of a relay earned second-team recognition. The remaining athletes were honorable mention.

This was Foote’s second outdoor All-America nod in the 400 after earning honorable mention in 2024 by placing 17th in 400. She also garnered second-team All-America accolades in the indoor 400, taking 14th in March in 52.58.
