OKLAHOMA CITY – On Monday, San Diego State softball’s head coach, Stacey Nuveman Deniz, was announced as an assistant coach for USA Softball for the 2025-28 quad including women’s national team camps and international events.
Nuveman Deniz is in her fourth season as head coach of the Aztecs. She has led San Diego State to four out of a possible six Mountain West titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances so far with the potential for a fourth next weekend at the helm of SDSU softball. She has also been named the Mountain West Coach of the Year twice.
Oklahoma’s Patty Gasso is the head coach for Team USA during the time frame. Nuveman Deniz is joined by fellow assistant coaches John Bargfeldt, Trisha Ford (Texas A&M), Kelly Kretschman (AUSL Volts), JT Gasso (Oklahoma), Chris Malveaux (Auburn), Lincoln Martin, Jen Rocha (Oklahoma) and Natasha Watley.
The group of coaches chosen for the pool will help with camps and training sessions including for the 2028 Olympic Games, for which softball games will be played in Oklahoma City. The specific coaching staff for each international event will be announced prior to the individual event. The highlight of the 2025 season is The World Games, set for August 13-17, in Chengdu, China, where the USA will seek its fourth World Games gold medal.
Nuveman Deniz and San Diego State are hosting the Mountain West Tournament this week at SDSU Softball Stadium. The event runs from Wednesday-Saturday, and, after a bye, the second-seeded Aztecs will open against the winner of third-seeded Fresno State and sixth-seeded San Jose State at 6 p.m. PT on Thursday. The entire tournament will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
