SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State Director of Athletics John David Wicker has announced a change in leadership for the Aztec baseball program on Thursday. Shaun Cole will not return as head coach, finishing his SDSU tenure with a 38-76 record over the past two years.
The Aztecs earned a spot in the Mountain West tournament after posting a fifth-place mark of 14-16 in conference play during the 2025 campaign, completing the season with a 20-39 record overall.
Throughout his time, Cole made it a priority to keep Coach Tony Gwynn’s memory and values alive.
“I appreciate Shaun’s commitment and contributions to San Diego State baseball,” Wicker said. “However, at this time, I believe that a change in leadership is needed in the program. I wish Shaun all the best in his future endeavors.”
San Diego State, which has made 14 NCAA regional appearances in program history, will begin a national search for the next head coach of the Aztec baseball program immediately.
