CARLSBAD, Calif. -- San Diego State men’s golfers Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) and Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) each were named to the PING All-West Region team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on Saturday. Chokprajakchat and Hastings were two of the 25 players selected from the west region.
It is the first all-region accolade for Chokprajakchat, while Hastings made it for the third consecutive season, becoming the first Aztec to garner three all-region selections.
The Aztecs joined Arizona, Arizona State, Brigham Young, Colorado, Long Beach State, UCLA, UNLV and Utah as the only schools with multiple all-West Region selections.
Chokprajakchat ranked third on the team with a 71.24 scoring average across 34 rounds. He was SDSU’s top golfer in three tournaments, including San Diego State’s victory at the Western Intercollegiate from April 14-16. Chokprajakchat had a runner-up finish and five top-10s in 10 starts this season, leading the Aztecs with seven even-par rounds and ranking second with 16 rounds below par. He made his first all-Mountain West team earlier this month.
Hastings, meanwhile, had arguably the best season in San Diego State history, racking up two victories and posting the second-best scoring average (70.33) in program history. Out of his 11 collegiate tournaments, he had two wins (by four strokes each), a runner-up finish and six top-10 efforts. Most recently, Hastings became the fourth Aztec to win a MW Championship after carding an 18-under-par 198. He also won the Lamkin Classic, March 10-11, in a tournament-record 16-under 200. Earlier this month, Hastings was named the MW Golfer of the Year and made his third all-MW team. Hastings also was named to the international team for the Arnold Palmer Cup in June. In January, Hastings won the Latin American Amateur Championship, earning an invitation to The Masters, where he posted the best score by an amateur, and exemptions into the U.S. Open and The Open.
Chokprajakchat and Hastings led San Diego State to its fourth consecutive MW championship earlier this month and a spot in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where the Aztecs tied for seventh out of 14 teams, two spots from advancing to the NCAA Championship.
