SAN DIEGO – San Diego State infielder Nevan Noonan and starting pitcher Marko Sipila garnered second-team all-Mountain West accolades, as the conference announced its postseason awards on Tuesday in advance of the 2025 Credit Union 1 MW Championship in Mesa, Arizona.

Mountain West postseason honors are voted on by the league’s seven head coaches and take into account conference games only.

A transfer from nearby Grossmont College, Noonan played in all 30 games against MW competition, leading the Aztecs in batting average (.377), total bases (72), hits (43), home runs (7), RBIs (25) and slugging percentage (.632) while sharing the top spot in on-base percentage (.450) and occupying the second spot in runs scored (25).

Among conference leaders in Mountain West games, Noonan ranks eighth in batting average and is tied for the eighth position in both on-base percentage and home runs.

Noonan is one of the two players to start all 56 games for the Scarlet and Black this season, earning 24 starts at both first and second base to go with another six starts at shortstop and two at designated hitter.

The Francis Parker High alumnus is currently batting .345 with a team-high eight home runs and 45 RBIs. His solo blast against Washington State on May 15 provided the winning margin in a 3-2 triumph in the series opener, giving the Aztecs momentum for the rest of the weekend en route to a three-game sweep.

For all games, Noonan is slotted fourth in the Mountain West with 76 hits and tops the squad with multiple hits in 23 games and has knocked in two or more runs on 15 occasions. He also owns the team’s longest hitting streak this season at 10 games from April 15-29.

A junior transfer from UC Colorado Springs, Sipila posted a 3-2 record in seven Mountain West starts, finishing fifth with a 4.33 ERA and a .255 opponent batting average while sharing the fifth spot with 49 strikeouts.

In SDSU’s 2-1 home victory over UNLV on March 28, Sipila matched his career high with nine strikeouts and collected the win after giving up just one run on five hits and one walk in eight innings of work.  The Independence, Minnesota, native also fanned nine batters against Fresno State on April 11.

For the season, Sipila (3-3) ranks fourth in the conference in ERA (4.34) and opponent batting average (.267) while ranking sixth in strikeouts (67) in 64 1/3 innings across 11 starts.

In each of his past two starts against New Mexico (6.0 IP, 1 R) and Washington State (5.0 IP, 2 R), Sipila struck out seven batters but did not factor in the decision despite not allowing an earned run in both outings.

Noonan, Sipila and the rest of the fifth-seeded Aztecs will open the MW Championship against No. 4 seed UNLV on Wednesday, May 21, at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.
