ATHENS, Ga. – The San Diego State women’s golf team completed the first two rounds of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia on Tuesday. Through 36 holes, the Aztecs are tied for seventh and led by Kylie Phi who is tied for 26th with a seven-over-par 151.

SDSU improved their score by 18 strokes in the second round, shooting a six-over-par 294.

Phi had SDSU’s best score in the first round with a three-over-par 75. She then shot a four-over-par 76 in her second round.

Stephanie Barbaglia, Ema Narita and Maya Benita are all tied for 30th and are one stroke behind Phi with an eight-over-par 152. All three drastically improved their scores in the second round. Barbaglia and Narita both shot a 79 in the opening and bounced back with a one-over-par 73 in the second 18. Barbaglia had a team-high four birdies in the second round (all on par fours).

Benita had the best round of the day by an Aztec with an even par 72 in the second round after shooting an 80 in the first round. Her 72 featured two birdies and 14 pars.

Emilia Omander had a 79 in the first round followed by an 80 in the second round.

Georgia Southern holds a three-stroke lead over Georgia after two rounds with a five-over-par 581. Queens-Charlotte’s Jillian Fatkin is the individual leader with after shooting a two-under-par 142.

The course played extremely tough, especially in the first round, where the average score was six-over-par. Average scores improved to 75.28 in the second round.

STAT OF THE DAY
Stephanie Barbaglia averaged 4.10 strokes on par fours, tied for eighth best in the tournament. As a team, SDSU had the third best score on par fours (4.22).

The Aztecs will play the final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Wednesday morning beginning with a 5:30 a.m. PT shotgun start.
