DELAND, Fla. – San Diego State lacrosse faced its final non-conference opponent of the 2025 campaign on Wednesday, falling 15-13 to Stetson in a back-and-forth battle on the road.
The Aztecs fall to 5-7 overall and remain 0-1 in the Big 12 while the Hatters improve to 5-6 on the season.
Bella Tan and Frankie Garcia were the leading scorers for the Scarlet and Black, each with three goals. Keira Doyle-Odenbach put two in the net and Emma Betts, Kate Christos, Sara Toner, Matty Spaeth and Nikki Seven each had one.
Stetson’s Sam King and Kaitlin Pani led all scorers with four goals apiece. Kathleen Nichols recorded three while Katie Kornacki and Miya Scanlan posted two each.
Starting goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton broke the school record for most ground balls in a game, picking up 11 on the day. The record previously belonged to Sam Horan and Camdyn O’Donnell who each tallied eight in 2023 and 2022, respectively. 11 ground balls is the most by anybody in the Big 12 this season. The junior also had nine saves off 25 shots faced.
The Aztecs got on the board first with a goal by Doyle-Odenbach, assisted by Christos. The Scarlet and Black were ahead 5-4 and scored four straight carrying into the second period. The Hatters responded with five unanswered goals to end the first half and start the second. The teams continued to exchange goals through the final 30 minutes with neither team leading by more than three, but the Aztecs could not overcome the late rally by Stetson, and ultimately fell 15-13.
Next up, the Aztecs head to Gainesville, Fla. to face No. 5 Florida in their second Big 12 game of the season. Opening draw is set for 7 a.m. PT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
