Aztecs Fall 13-11 to UC Davis in 2025 Season Finale

San Diego State lacrosse wrapped up its 2025 campaign on Saturday, capping off the inaugural Big 12 season with a rematch against UC Davis.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse wrapped up its 2025 campaign on Saturday, capping off the inaugural Big 12 season with a rematch against UC Davis. It was a 60-minute battle, with neither team leading by more than three, but the Aztecs could not overcome the Aggies in a 13-11 defeat.

San Diego State finishes the season with a 5-11 record and 0-5 in the Big 12.

UC Davis improves to 6-9 on the season and 2-3 in the league.

Matty Spaeth led the Aztec offense, scoring a season-high four goals on her senior day, in addition to one assist and one ground ball.

Fellow senior Emma Betts and redshirt freshman Bella Tan were the second leading scorers for the Scarlet and Black, with two goals apiece. Betts added one caused turnover while Tan recorded one assist, one ground ball and one caused turnover. With 46 goals on the season, Tan officially ties Bailey Ewing for the fourth-most by an Aztec in a single season, set in 2013.

Midfielder Kate Christos was a difference-maker on both ends of the field, totaling one goal, three assists, three ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover in her final game on The Mesa.

Sara Toner also found the net, putting one away to tie the score in the third quarter.

Grace Gebhardt was the leading scorer for the Aggies, recording four goals and two assists.

Freshman Grace Moore played all 60 minutes in the cage, grabbing 10 saves off 26 shots faced.

The Aztecs jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Aggies 3-2 in the first period, with Spaeth and Betts putting the first three between the pipes. The two Aztecs continued to find scoring opportunities in the second period, in addition to a goal from Tan, but the score was knotted up at 6-6 by halftime. The two teams continued to exchange goals, totaling seven tied scores, but the Aggies pushed past the Aztecs in the final minutes.
