SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team finished the Mountain West regular season 11-7 and earned the No. 4 seed in next week’s Mountain West tournament. The Aztecs, who are on a five-game win streak, will face the No. 5 seed New Mexico (10-8) in the quarterfinals Monday at 2:30 p.m. at UNLV’s Thomas and Mack Center.

The Aztecs and Lobos split their two regular season meetings this year with the road team winning each matchup. New Mexico beat SDSU 68-59 on Jan. 4 in San Diego and then the Aztecs returned the favor with a 59-46 win in Albuquerque on Feb. 1.

This is the fourth straight season the Aztecs have faced the Lobos in the Mountain West tournament and 13th time overall (out of 26), by far the most meetings vs. any conference opponent. Each of the last three meetings have been in the quarterfinals with San Diego State winning the last two.

The Aztecs are 5-8 against the Lobos in the tournament and 37-42 overall.

San Diego State has reached the Mountain West tournament semifinals in each of the past two seasons and made the championship game last year, their first time making it since 2013.

This is the first time in the tournament’s 26-year history that San Diego State has been the No. 4 seed.
