SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State’s Pavana Nagaraj is in eighth-place after the first day of the Shelia Burrell Aztec Heptathlon Thursday at the Choc Sportsman Oval/Aztrack on SDSU Sports Deck.
Nagaraj has totaled 2,135 points through four of the seven-event competition and is eighth out of nine competitors. Kiana Davis (unattached) tops the field with 3,310 points.
Nagaraj, competing in her first career collegiate heptathlon, unfortunately did not finish the 100-meter hurdles in the opening event. She rebounded with a second-place showing in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3 ¾ inches (1.62 meters) for 759 points. Nagaraj then tied for third in the shot put with a toss of 34-00.75 (10.38m) for 554 points before running the fourth-fastest 200 in 25.72 for 822 points.
Day two of the heptathlon begins at 10 a.m. PT Friday with the long jump, followed by the javelin throw and the 800-meter run.
