Two-day event begins Thursday.

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State track and field team plays host to the Shelia Burrell Aztec Heptathlon/Decathlon this weekend at Choc Sportsman Oval/Aztrack on SDSU Sports Deck. The two-day event begins on Thursday and concludes on Friday.

Pavana Nagaraj is the lone Aztec competitor in the heptathlon, joining athletes from North Dakota, Utah and Point Loma Nazarene are set to compete in the seven-event competition, along with Mexico and one unattached athlete. Thursday will open with the 100-meter hurdles at 12:30 p.m. PT, followed by the high jump, shot put and 200 meters. Friday starts with the long jump at 10 a.m. PT, and ends with the javelin throw and 800 meters.

The decathlon, meanwhile, has four competitors entered with two from North Dakota, one from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and one unattached. Thursday’s five events will be the 100 meters at 10:30 a.m. PT, followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. Friday’s five scheduled events are the 110-meter hurdles at 9 a.m. PT, the discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and the 1,500 meters.

SDSU returns to action the following weekend, splitting competition across three meets, including San Francisco State’s Mike Fanelli Classic, April 3-5, at Cox Stadium in San Francisco, the Stanford Invitational, April 4-5, at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, California, and the Arnie Robinson Invitational, April 5, at Merrill Douglas Stadium at San Diego Mesa College.
