LAHAINA, HI – The San Diego State women’s golf team finished their first round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Maui Monday. Through 18 holes, the Aztecs are led by Ema Narita and Maya Benita who both shot a one-over-par 73 in their opening round.
Playing at the famed Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course in Lahaina, Narita and Benita took very different paths to reach a 73. Benita had 16 pars, which tied for the most on the day, to go with one birdie and a double-bogey.
Narita had three bogeys in her first five holes but then had a stretch of four birdies in five holes to right the ship. Her five birdies on the day was a team-high and tied for the third most in the tournament.
Kylie Phi finished third among Aztecs with a three-over-par 75, while Stephanie Barbaglia and Emilia Omander each shot a 78 (+6).
Mercer is in the lead with a six-under-par 282 and there is a five-way tie for the individual lead at four-under-par (68).
STAT OF THE DAY
Ema Narita averaged 3.8 strokes on par fours, tied for second best on the day.

The Aztecs will play the second round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Tuesday beginning with an 11 a.m. PT shotgun start.
