Aztecs Move up Six Spots in Second Day of Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

The Aztecs moved up six spots in the standings after tying a season low with a three-under-par 285 Tuesday.

LAHAINA, HI – The San Diego State women’s golf team finished their second round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Maui Tuesday. The Aztecs moved up six spots in the standings after tying a season low with a three-under-par 285 Tuesday.

Through 36 holes, the Aztecs are led by Maya Benita and Ema Narita who are tied for 24th with an even par 144.

Benita tied her career-low score Tuesday with a one-under-par 71. She had three birdies, and her day was highlighted by an eagle on the 324-yar par four 7th hole.

Ema Narita also shot a 71 Tuesday. She tied Kylie Phi and Stephanie Barbaglia for the team lead with four birdies on the day.

Freshman Kylie Phi also shot a one-under-par 71 Tuesday. She started out hot, recording birdies in four of the first six holes before paring 10 of her last 12. She is tied for 40th with a two-over-par 146 and moved up 20 spots in the standings Tuesday.

Stephanie Barbaglia shot an even par 72 on the day. Outside of a four-hole stretch of consecutive bogeys, she was four-under on the day. She also moved up 20 spots in the standings Tuesday.

Emilia Omander finished outside the scoring but improved her first-round score.

Washington is in the lead with an 18-under-par 559. Their Vivian Lu is tied with Gonzaga’s Grace Lee for the individual lead with a nine-under-par 135.

Maya Benita is averaging 3.85 strokes on par fours, tied for the fifth best in the tournament.
