SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse welcomed UC Davis to Aztec Field on Saturday. The high-scoring game did not go in favor of the Scarlet and Black, who fell 24-15 to the Aggies.

The Aztecs fall to 5-5 overall and the Aggies improve to 3-6. Both teams remain 0-0 in the Big 12 as this was not an official conference game.

Frankie Garcia led the Aztec offense with four goals off nine shots. It’s the seventh time this season the sophomore has scored three or more goals in a single game. She is the leading point scorer for the Aztecs with 29 goals and 11 assists through the first ten games.

Sara Toner tied her season high three goals off three shots while Matty Spaeth and Keira Doyle-Odenbach found the net twice and Bella Tan, Emma Betts, Presley Mitchell and Talie Richardson each added one apiece.

Caitlin Boughton started in the cage and played the first 30 minutes, recording seven saves off 28 shots faced and 15 goals allowed. Freshman Grace Moore entered the game at the start of the third period, playing the final 30 minutes and earning three saves off 13 shots faced and nine goals allowed.

Alex Agnew led all scorers with ten points off five goals and five assists. Alannah Scott and Grace Gebhardt also put five in the net for the Aggies.

UC Davis got on the board first with a free position goal from Ella Brislin, but the Aztecs responded with four unanswered goals from Garcia (2), Spaeth and Tan, giving San Diego State an early 4-1 lead. The Aggies went on a scoring run to close out the first period, taking a 6-4 advantage into the second. UC Davis carried the momentum into the second period, outscoring the Aztecs 9-4. It was a low-scoring third period, comparatively. San Diego State fired off three quick goals from Garcia (2) and Toner, but after exchanging points through the rest of the quarter, the Aztecs were still at a 18-12 disadvantage that they ultimately could not overcome. The Aggies added six more in the final stanza while the Aztecs only put three more on the board in a 24-15 defeat.

San Diego State lacrosse returns to action on March 29, officially kicking off Big 12 play against Colorado at Aztec Field at 1 p.m.
