FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – San Diego State diver Valentina Lopez Arevalo competed in the 3-meter springboard event on Friday at the 2025 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, logging a 40th place finish inside Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Lopez Arevalo totaled 261.95 points in the preliminary round but did not advance to the finals. On March 10, the Aztec senior secured a spot in the national meet after placing sixth at the NCAA Zone E Championships at the same venue located in suburban Seattle.
With Lopez Arevalo’s zone performance, the SDSU swim and dive program extended its streak of qualifying at least one student-athlete to the NCAA Championships to 15 consecutive seasons.
Last month, Lopez Arevalo was named Mountain West Diver of the Meet after helping the Aztecs capture their fourth consecutive conference championship and sixth in the last seven years. The Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, native compiled 92 points across three events at the MW Championships, which marked the highest individual total in the field of competitors. She took home gold medals in the 3-meter and platform events while winning a silver medal on the 1-meter board.
Thanks to her efforts, Lopez Arevalo’s MW Diver of the Meet award marked the fourth occasion an SDSU student-athlete garnered such accolades after Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez received the same distinction in 2019 and 2022.
During the 2024-25 campaign, Lopez Arevalo claimed 13 event titles (five in the 1-meter springboard and four apiece on the 3-meter springboard and platform tower), earning three Mountain West Diver of the Week honors in the process.
Collectively, the San Diego State swim and dive program completed another successful campaign, becoming just the second school in Mountain West history to capture four straight conference championships after former member Brigham Young accomplished the feat from 2007-10.
