Daniel Arambula Tabbed Mountain West Freshman of the Week
SAN DIEGO – San Diego State infielder Daniel Arambula earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors after leading the Aztecs to a series victory over San José State at home, March 15-16. The announcement was made Monday by the league office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
With his award, Arambula garnered the first conference weekly accolade of his career and SDSU’s first of the season.
A native of Yucaipa, California, Arambula powered the Aztecs to a doubleheader sweep of SJSU last Saturday, hitting .571 (4-7) with two homers, eight RBIs and four runs scored.
In the first inning of game one, Arambula launched his first career grand slam to highlight a six-run explosion before roping an RBI single in the second, as the Scarlet and Black rolled to a big 16-1 run-rule victory in seven innings.
Arambula took charge in the nightcap as well, putting the Aztecs on the board in the second with another RBI single before belting a two-run homer in the sixth, which broke a 2-2 deadlock and gave SDSU a lead it would not relinquish en route to a 6-4 triumph. He also contributed an RBI groundout on Sunday to wrap up the series.
For the weekend, Arambula led the Aztecs with a 1.000 slugging percentage, 10 total bases, and nine RBIs, while ranking second with a .400 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage. He also assisted on three putouts at third base during the series for a clean 1.000 fielding percentage.
After winning two of three games vs. the Spartans, SDSU has captured 13 of 17 series against San José State since the 2014 campaign.
Arambula and the Aztecs return to the diamond on Tuesday when they hit the road to face California Baptist in Riverside, California. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. PT, and the contest will air live on ESPN+.
