COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State’s Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) and Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) swept the Mountain West Men’s Golf awards, the league announced Thursday. Hastings was named the MW Golfer of the Week for the third time of his career, while Takis was selected as the MW Freshman of the Week for the second time.

The duo led the Aztecs, who are 15th in the latest Scoreboard national rankings, to a 16-stroke victory at the R.E. Lamkin Classic earlier this week (Monday and Tuesday) at the San Diego Country Club. SDSU finished at -43 for the tournament on the par-72, 7,033-yard San Diego Country Club, blitzing the 16-team field in Tuesday’s final round, posting a 268, the best round by eight strokes over eventual fourth-place finisher No. 22 Brigham Young (-18) as only two other schools shot below par in Colorado (-6) and San Diego (-5).

It was the first regular-season team title for the three-time defending Mountain West champions since winning the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in April 2023 and San Diego State’s first Lamkin Classic win since 2013. The Aztecs were one shot short of tying Oklahoma State’s Lamkin Invite-record score of 44-under par, set in 2018.

Hastings continued his impressive spring, earning medalist honors with his second straight 66 to finish at 16-under 200, breaking Fredrik Nilehan’s previous record of -15 set in 2018. It was the third collegiate title for Hastings, tied for the ninth most in SDSU history, and fourth consecutive collegiate top-10 finish. He went 68, 66 and 66 for the tournament, birdieing 20 of the 54 holes.

In January, Hastings captured the Latin American Amateur Championship, receiving an invitation to compete in the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and exemptions into The Open and the U.S. Open. He has played in two PGA TOUR events this spring, tying for 13th at the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld, Feb. 20-23, at 13-under-par 271 and missing the cut just this past weekend at the Puerto Rico Open after being at 2-under 142 through 36 holes. Hastings is ranked 11th in the latest PGA TOUR University rankings and 24th in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).

Hastings leads the Aztecs with a 70.24 scoring average this season across seven tournaments and 21 rounds. His 71.24 career average through 117 rounds is the best in recorded program history (since at least 1993-94), ahead of Xander Schauffele’s 71.50 set from 2013-15.

Takis, meanwhile, tied for second out of 94 golfers at 12-under 204. Takis shot 67, 68 and 69, logging the best collegiate finish of his career and best 54-hole score.

Takis ranks third on the team with a 71.74 stroke average through eight tournaments and 23 rounds.

Next up for the Aztecs will be The Pauma Invitational, March 17-18, in Pauma Valley, California.
