SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State’s Jenna Fee Feyerabend and Shaquena Foote are set to compete in the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Feyerabend qualified to compete in the pentathlon, while Foote will run the 400 meters.
The two-day meet at Virginia Beach Sports Center begins Friday and concludes on Saturday.
The pentathlon kicks things off for Feyerabend at 9:35 a.m. ET (6:35 a.m. PT), beginning with the 60-meter hurdles. The 60 hurdles is followed by the high jump at 10:45 a.m. ET (7:45 a.m. PT), the shot put at 12:45 p.m. ET (9:45 a.m. PT), the long jump at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT) and finally the 800 meters at 3:05 p.m. ET (12:05 p.m. PT).
Feyerabend enters the weekend ranked in a tie for 15th out of 16 competitors in the pentathlon with Montana State’s Shelby Schweyen with 4,183 points, which she attained Feb. 27 while winning the event at the Mountain West Championships. Nine pentathletes are within 100 points of Feyerabend in the seeding heading into NCAAs this weekend.
Feyerabend previously competed in the pentathlon at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships, taking ninth with a collegiate-best 4,263 points. She also has NCAA outdoor experience in the heptathlon, finishing ninth in 2024 (5,812 points) and 11th in 2023 (5,742). Feyerabend did not compete in indoor last season.
Feyerabend is the first Aztec to make two NCAA Indoor Championship meets in the pentathlon as the only other competitor was Allison Reaser, who was 15th in 2014 with 3,996 points.
Foote, meanwhile, runs in the semifinal round of the 400 at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) Friday, competing the fourth of four heats. The top-8 fastest times regardless of heat will advance to a 2-second final, set for 3:20 p.m. ET (12:20 p.m. PT) Saturday.
Foote is ranked ninth in the 400 with an altitude adjusted time of 51.59 seconds, which was run in 51.48 in the MW Championship final. It was a Mountain West record and indoor program, as she won the event by 1.10 seconds over the second-place finisher and took the indoor gold for a second consecutive season. Foote also captured the 200 at the event with a time of 22.89, the second-fastest indoor 200 in school history. For her efforts, Foote was named the MW Track Performer of the Meet.
This will be Foote’s first NCAA Indoor Championship after taking 17th in the 400 at last year’s outdoor championship meet.
Foote is just the second Aztec to make the 400 at the NCAA Indoor Championships with SDSU Hall of Famer Tonette Dyer coming in 18th in 2003 in 56.02.
Head Coach Shelia Burrell is in her 16th season at the helm of the program. This is the third straight year that Burrell has coached an athlete at the NCAA Indoor Championships. SDSU has the top-6 indoor finishes in school history under Burrell, including five in the top-25 (2010, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018).
San Diego State last scored at the NCAA Championships in 2019, tying for 27th with eight points.
The outdoor season resumes as San Diego State plays host to the Aztec Invitational (March 21-22) and the Shelia Burrell Aztec Heptathlon/Decathlon (March 27-28) in consecutive weekends.
