SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women’s golf team is hosting their annual tournament, the San Diego State Classic, Monday-Tuesday at The Heights Golf Club in nearby Rancho Bernardo.

Teams will play 36 holes Monday and then play the final round Tuesday. Teams will begin play at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start each day.

The 12-team field is highlighted by No. 1 Stanford. There will also be three Mountain West teams competing (Fresno State, New Mexico and UNLV). Rounding out the field is No. 48 BYU, Colorado, Denver, Georgia, Oregon State, Western Michigan and Wisconsin.

The Aztecs will roll out a lineup of Ema Narita, Kylie Phi, Stephanie Barbaglia, Nikki Kato and Maya Benita while the freshman duo of Emilia Omander and Emma Delwes will play as individuals.

Narita finished second or third among Aztecs in every fall tournament. She leads the Aztecs in count percentage (12.5-13, 96.2%).

Phi is the reigning Mountain West Freshman of the Week after shooting a 74, which tied for the lowest score on the team, in last week’s dual match with Long Beach State. She has started every tournament for the Aztecs so far.

Barbaglia leads the team with a 72.3 18-hole average and led SDSU in three of their four fall tournaments.

Kato has earned a start in four of the Aztecs’ six tournaments.

Maya Benita, a graduate transfer from Arizona, will be making her first start as an Aztec. She shot a 80 while playing as an individual in last week’s dual match with Long Beach State.

Omander, a freshman from Cologne, Germany, will be playing in her third collegiate tournament.

Delwes played in three tournaments in the fall and made two starts. Her best tournament was the Ron Moore Intercollegiate where she shot a 230 that included a one-over-par 73 in the first round.

The Aztecs’ home course, The Farms Golf Club, is undergoing renovation, therefore the tournament was moved to the nearby Heights Golf Club. The course plays 6,376 yards and is a par 72.

The forecast calls for cloudy skies and temperatures in the 50s with moderate winds.
