SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team (17-8, 6-6) fell to second place Wyoming 64-51 (14-9, 8-3) inside Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon.
“I thought we could’ve played better,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said postgame. “But I’m not going to overreact because we’ve played well the last two weeks.”
The Aztecs struggled with turnovers early in the game, which resulted in them attempting just eight shots to Wyoming’s 17 in the first quarter.
SDSU was effective from the field in the first half but had just one assist and 10 turnovers in the opening two quarters.
Wyoming went on a 9-0 run early in the second half to push their lead to double-digits. The Aztecs cut their deficit to six in the fourth quarter but the Cowgirls’ Allyson Fertig, who finished with 20 points on 10-for-14 shooting, then scored three straight buckets to give Wyoming a comfortable lead.
The Aztecs were led by Kim Villalobos’ 10 points. Cali Clark finished with a game-high eight rebounds.
The Cowgirls shot above 50% from both the field and three-point range and never trailed in the game.

The Aztecs were 1-for-8 (13%) from three while the Cowgirls were 7-for-13 (54%).
THE NOTE
This was the first time SDSU has lost making more free throws than their opponent (10-1).
