Men’s Tennis Defeats Pomona-Pitzer 5-2

San Diego State men’s tennis won its second match in two days on Thursday evening, taking down the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 5-2 under the lights of the Aztec Tennis Center.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis won its second match in two days on Thursday evening, taking down the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 5-2 under the lights of the Aztec Tennis Center. Following a 4-1 win over Cal Poly on Wednesday, the Aztecs advance to 5-3 in the 2025 campaign.

The Scarlet and Black secured the doubles point for the fourth time this season, taking the top two courts. Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Denis Maijorov rolled to a 6-1 win over Ethan Lee and Neil Chulani on court two. Liam Spiers and Marc Kleber were bested by Blake Bothmer and Jay Mallampati, 6-1, in the court three matchup to make the score an even 1-1. Alexander Mandma and Mathieu Josserand battled to a tiebreaker, capturing the doubles point 7-6 (7-0) over Leo Rocca and Drew Goldman. It’s the duo’s fifth win in the top spot this season.

For the second time this week, Spiers put the first singles point on the board. Playing on court five, the senior defeated John Wehrle in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to improve his dual match singles record to 5-2.

Louis Chusseau extended the Aztecs’ lead to 3-0 with a win over Rocca. After dropping the first set 3-6, the freshman rallied to a dominant 6-1, 6-0 finish on the sixth court to earn the first win of his collegiate career.

The Sagehens got on the board with a court one victory. San Diego State’s Bosse came up short 6-4, 6-3 to Goldman to bring the score to 3-1.

Josserand was the clincher for the Aztecs, securing the team’s fifth win after taking down Andrew Andea 6-3, 6-3 in the third spot. The senior is 5-2 in singles play and 3-0 when playing in the third spot.

Opting to play out the match, the Aztecs and the Sagehens split the last two courts. Mandma captured a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Lee on the second court while Maijorov fell 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 to Luke Feng on court four.
