Aztecs Through Two Round at Causeway Invitational

The SDSU women’s golf team finished the first day of the Causeway Invitational Monday. Through two rounds, the Aztecs are tied for 10th place. SDSU shot a 305 (+17) in the opening round and then improved their second round score by 12 strokes.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The San Diego State women’s golf team finished the first day of the Causeway Invitational Monday. Through two rounds, the Aztecs are tied for 10th place.

SDSU shot a 305 (+17) in the opening round and then improved their second round score by 12 strokes.

Maya Benita, who is playing as an individual, leads the Aztecs after firing a pair of one-over-par 73s which puts her in a tie for 21st place. She had a team-best three birdies in the first round while her second round was highlighted by a 25-yard chip-in eagle on the 478-yard par five 15th hole.

Stephanie Barbaglia sits just one stroke behind Benita with a three-over-par 147. She tied Benita for SDSU’s best score in the first round and then had a two-over-par 74 in the second round aided by three birdies.

Kylie Phi, who has won two straight Mountain West Freshman of the Week awards, bounced back from a first round 78 to shoot a two-under-par 70 in her second round, the best round by an Aztec on the day. She only had one bogey to go with three birdies.

Emilia Omander shot an eight-over-par 152. She followed up a first round 78 with a two-over-par 74 in the second round.

Ema Narita and Nikki Kato sit one stroke behind Omander. Narita carded a 76 and a 77 while Kato improved her score by three strokes in the second round, going from a 78 to a three-over-par 75.

Oregon State and Sacramento State are tied for the lead with a 14-under-par 562. The Beavers’ Kyra Ly is in the individual lead with an impressive 13-under-par 131 (65-66).

STAT OF THE DAY
Emilia Omander averaged a 2.8 on par threes, tied for the best score of the day.

UP NEXT
The Aztecs will wrap up the Causeway Invitational Tuesday morning. Play begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
