COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Naomi Panganiban was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning. It’s Panganiban’s third time being honored this season.
The San Diego native averaged 13.0 points to help SDSU go 2-0 on the week. She was 9-for-17 from the field (53%) and 4-for-10 (40%) from three.
In the Aztecs’ 72-43 win over Nevada, she led SDSU with 15 points and was 6-for-10 from the floor and 3-for-6 from three while dishing out four assists.
In SDSU’s 82-60 win at San Jose State on Saturday, Panganiban had 11 points. She was 3-for-7 from the field and 4-for-5 from the line.
Panganiban’s three Mountain West Freshman of the Week awards on the year ties teammate Nat Martinez for a school record. The duo is tied with Colorado State’s Kloe Froebe for the most awards this season.
Combined with the men’s program, San Diego State has won a conference-best 13 Mountain West Freshman of the Week awards. Colorado State is second with six honors with five coming from the women’s team.
The Aztecs (20-9) have won three games in a row and just secured their 20th win on the year, giving them 20 or more wins in three straight seasons for the first time since 1997 when SDSU had four straight.
