Aztecs Win at San Jose State 82-60

The Aztecs, who improved to 9-3 on the road, have won 20 or more games in three straight seasons, the first time the program has achieved that since 1993-94 to 1996-97 (four straight).

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Diego State women’s basketball team (20-9, 9-7) won at San Jose State (10-18, 3-12) 82-60 Saturday afternoon to secure their third straight win by 15 or more points. The Aztecs, who improved to 9-3 on the road, have won 20 or more games in three straight seasons, the first time the program has achieved that since 1993-94 to 1996-97 (four straight).

The Aztecs never trailed, the second straight game that has happened, while holding the Spartans to 28% shooting for the game and 24% in the second half.

Veronica Sheffey led SDSU with 17 points while Kaelyn Hamilton (11), Naomi Panganiban (11) and Kim Villalobos (10) also scored in double-digits. It was a career-high for Hamilton. The Aztecs are 16-2 when three or more players score 10 or more points.

The Aztecs jumped out to an 8-1 lead and held the Spartans to four field goals in the fourth quarter to take a 23-10 lead. San Jose State had a 7-0 run early in the second quarter that SDSU immediately responded to with a 10-0 run and the Aztecs led by double-digits for the rest of the game.

Hamilton had nine of her 11 points in the first half, which was highlighted by a pair of three-pointers and an and-one finish.

The Aztecs shooting cooled in the second half, but their defense never wavered. SDSU made 17 of their 24 free throws in the second frame.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs were 24-for-26 (92.3%) from the free throw line, that’s SDSU’s best free throw percentage in a game while making at least 20 free throws in the Mountain West era (26 years).

THE NOTE I
With Kaelyn Hamilton scoring a career-high 11 points the Aztecs have had 12 different players score in double digits this season.

THE NOTE II
The Aztecs have won their last three games by 15 or more points. That’s the first time SDSU has done that in Mountain West play since 2012-13.
