Women’s Tennis to Host Washington and Hawai’i

San Diego State women’s tennis returns to the Aztec Tennis Center this weekend, hosting Washington and Hawai’i in back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis returns to the Aztec Tennis Center this weekend, hosting Washington and Hawai’i in back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday.

The Aztecs first face the Huskies at noon on Saturday. With a 5-1 record, Washington ranks 26th in the most recent ITA team rankings, and is led by Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs, who rank 60th as a doubles pair. The Huskies are on a four-match winning streak, most recently taking down Arizona State 4-0.

Following Saturday’s contest, the Aztecs will quickly return to action at noon on Sunday in a matchup against Hawai’i. The Rainbow Warriors are 4-2 on the season with their latest win coming at UC Riverside where they defeated the Highlanders 6-1.

San Diego State enters the weekend with a 4-3 record, and is 3-1 at home. Last time out, the Aztecs earned a 4-1 win over Utah on Feb. 14 before dropping a tough match 4-2 at Long Beach State on Feb. 16.

Jo-Yee Chan and Zoe Olmos lead the Aztecs in doubles play with a 4-3 dual match record. Olmos (3-1), Chan (3-2), Vesa Gjinaj (3-1) and Ninon Martinache (3-3) lead in singles with three wins each.

This weekend's competition kicks off a six-match home stand for the Aztecs, leading into their first conference match of the season on Mar. 14 against Air Force.
