Aztecs Set For Causeway Invitational

The San Diego State women’s golf team will play in the Causeway Invitational at Sacramento’s Del Paso Country Club Monday and Tuesday.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s golf team will play in the Causeway Invitational at Sacramento’s Del Paso Country Club next week. The 12-team tournament hosted by UC Davis will feature 36 holes Monday before the final 18 holes on Tuesday with both days beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Schools competing include: UC Davis, San Francisco, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Nevada, Colorado, Seattle, Cal Poly, Sacramento State, BYU, Fresno State and Oregon State.

SDSU’s lineup will be Kylie Phi, Ema Narita, Emilia Omander, Nikki Kato and Stephanie Barbaglia while Maya Benita will play as an individual.

The Aztecs are coming off a ninth-place finish at their home tournament, the San Diego State Classic, where they saw multiple golfers record season and career best scores.

Phi won her second straight Mountain West Freshman of the Week award after shooting a career-low six-over-par 222 to tie for 21st and for SDSU’s low score.

Phi tied for Narita, whose tournament was highlighted by a season-low 71 in her second round. Narita leads the Aztecs with a 96.9 count percentage.

Omander had the best tournament of her young career. She finished tied for 27th with an eight-over-par 224 and opened the tournament with a collegiate best even par 72.

Kato also had a career-low 54-hole score, finishing with a 227 (+11) which included a final round even par 72.

Barbaglia is SDSU’s top-ranked golfer and her 18-hole average of 73.25 leads the team. She led the Aztecs in three of their four fall tournaments.

Benita earned her first start as an Aztec at the San Diego State Classic where she shot a 230 (+14).

The Del Paso Country Club plays 6,143 yards and is a par 72.

The forecast calls for cool mornings with temperatures eventually reaching the mid to high 60s.
