COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The San Diego State football team and Mountain West released its 2025 schedule on Thursday. Game times and television arrangements, including moves to non-Saturdays will be announced at a later date.
The Aztecs will play six of their 12 games in 2025 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego. Seven of SDSU's 11 FBS opponents made a bowl game a year ago including CFP quarterfinalist Boise State.
The 2025 season will be San Diego State’s final football campaign in the Mountain West. The Aztecs, who were one of eight initial members of the league beginning in the 1999-00 season, accepted an invitation to join the Pac-12 Conference on Sept. 12, 2024 and officially becomes a member of the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026.
San Diego State opens its 103rd season of play and second under the direction of head coach Sean Lewis on Thursday, Aug. 28 at home against Stony Brook.
The Aztecs then hit the road for the first time with a trip to Washington State on Sept. 6. The Cougars defeated the Aztecs, 29-26, at Snapdragon Stadium last season finishing the year with an 8-5 overall record and a DirecTV Holiday Bowl appearance where they fell to No. 21 Syracuse.
Following an open week, San Diego State then hosts California on Saturday, Sept. 20. The Bears were 6-7 a year ago including a 31-10 home victory over the Aztecs and ending their season with a loss to No. 24 UNLV in the Art of Sport LA Bowl.
The final non-conference weekend will be Sept. 27 at Northern Illinois. SDSU is 6-0 all-time in the series, and 2-0 in DeKalb, against the Huskies with the last meeting resulting in a 34-28 home win during the 2017 season. NIU finished 2024 with an 8-5 overall record and a double-overtime victory over Fresno State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
San Diego State kicks off its Mountain West play on Oct. 4 at home against Colorado State. The Aztecs and Rams last faced each other during the 2023 season in Fort Collins, with SDSU’s late comeback falling short in the 22-19 loss. CSU was 8-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play a season ago, culminating with a loss to Miami (OH) in the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl.
SDSU follows with a road game at Nevada on Oct. 11. The Aztecs won their last trip to Reno, 23-7, in 2022 but fell to the Wolf Pack in 2023 at Snapdragon Stadium. Nevada went winless in Mountain West play last year as part of a 3-10 campaign.
After its second and final open week of the season on Oct. 18, SDSU looks to defend the Battle for the Old Oil Can on the road at Fresno State. The last matchup was the 2023 season finale at Snapdragon Stadium where the Aztecs defeated the Bulldogs, 33-18. Fresno State was bowl eligible last season, facing Northern Illinois in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, suffering a 28-20 loss and ending with a 6-7 record.
On Nov. 1, the Aztecs return home to host Wyoming at Snapdragon Stadium. Last year in Laramie, SDSU rallied in the fourth quarter for a 27-24 victory. The Cowboys sported a 3-9 overall record last year and a 2-5 mark in conference action.
San Diego State follows with a trip to the island of Oahu to face the Rainbow Warriors on Nov. 8. The Aztecs bested Hawai’i in the conference opener last year, winning 27-24 on a fourth-quarter score. Hawaii would finish the season at 5-7 clip overall and 3-4 in Mountain West play.
SDSU returns home on Nov. 15 for a meeting with back-to-back Mountain West champion Boise State. The Broncos finished their 2024 campaign ranked No. 8/9 in the final polls capping off a 12-2 season that ended in the 12-team College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Last year, Boise State beat the Aztecs in Boise.
Next on the schedule is San Diego State’s final game at home for the season, hosting San Jose State on Nov. 22 at Snapdragon Stadium. The Aztecs and Spartans last met in 2023 when SJSU bested SDSU, 24-13, in San Jose, California. San Jose State was 7-6 overall and 3-4 in MW play a year ago, falling to South Florida in five overtimes at the Hawai’i Bowl.
The Aztecs wrap up their regular season on Nov. 29 on the road at New Mexico. SDSU fell to the Lobos, 21-16, last year at home, snapping a nine-game winning streak in the series. New Mexico would go on to finish the season 5-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
The 13th conference championship game will take place Friday, Dec. 5 at a site to be determined and will pit the top-2 teams in the regular-season standings.
The 2025 MW schedule reverted back to its original scheduling philosophy developed by the AD scheduling subcommittee in 2022, some elements that were incorporated into the 2025 slate included that no team misses an opponent in consecutive years, historic rivalries were protected, avoided repeat matchups at the same location from 2024 to 2025, minimized the instances where teams miss opponents twice in a three-year period (2023-25), balanced travel (including time zones and altitude) as much as possible and considered non-conference weeks 1-6.
Season tickets for the 2025 campaign start at just $200 ($175 plus $25 Aztec Club Membership), only $33.33 per game. Prizes are being awarded weekly for new season ticket holders and those who order by Friday, Feb. 21 are eligible for the grand prize of a trip for two to an away game.
Fans are encouraged to purchase season tickets with benefits featuring interest-free payment plans, pre-sale access for most third-party events, and discounts on merchandise at the team store, additional single-game tickets and food/beverage. Additionally, season-ticket members will have the ability to purchase discounted season parking, access to a personal account representative and the ability to transfer and resell tickets digitally.
