SAN DIEGO – San Diego State dominated Fresno State, 83-60, at Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena on Tuesday night. The victory is SDSU’s third in a row and seventh in its last eight games.
The Aztecs (18-6, 11-4 MW) have now won 12 consecutive games against the Bulldogs (5-22, 1-15 MW) with the streak starting Jan. 1, 2020.
SDSU led from start to finish beginning with a Nick Boyd three as the game’s first score. Five minutes later, the senior guard made a layup for the 1,000th point of his collegiate career. He finished the game with 19 points and seven assists.
When the clock hit 7:45 left in the half, San Diego State started a 15-4 scoring run extending its lead to 20 points reaching as many as 23 before the break.
The Scarlet and Black shot .514 percent from the field in the half and were red hot on two-point field goal attempts making 15 of its 21 shots inside the arc. It aided in a 30-18 advantage on points inside the paint on the way to a 43-23 lead heading into the locker room. It is SDSU’s largest halftime lead in a Mountain West game this season.
San Diego State dished out 20 assists on its 34 made field goals led by Boyd with seven. It is their most assists as a team against a Division I opponent this season. On the defensive side, SDSU forced 16 turnovers – 11 in the first half – leading to a 20-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Along with Boyd, Wayne McKinney III and Magoon Gwath both reached double-figures scoring 15 and 14 points respectively. Gwath also add six rebounds and three blocks.
Fresno State had two in double-digits with Jalen Weaver scoring 16 points and Alex Crawford right behind him with 15.
Next on the schedule is a pivotal Mountain West matchup as the Aztecs head to Utah State to face the second-place Aggies. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m. MT (5 p.m. PT) on CBS Sports Network.
