SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team (18-9, 7-7) knocked off Utah State (2-23, 1-12) 78-63 inside Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs finished the game on a 27-14 run to earn their eight straight win over Utah State.

“I’m proud of how we locked in defensively after the first quarter,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said. “We’re watching film and growing and we’re trying to get better every time we’re together.”

Kim Villalobos led the Aztecs with 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting and 13 rebounds. She also had three steals.

“Kim had a great defensive game and anchored us down low,” Terry-Hutson praised. “She rebounds, defends, shares the ball and she’s been on this roll because she’s taking good shots.”

Naomi Panganiban finished with 15 points, nine of which came in the fourth quarter. Erin Houpt had 12 points on four three-pointers.

The Aztecs jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but the Aggies responded with a 13-0 run after making nine of their first 12 shots.

In both the second and third quarters, the Aztecs’ lead would get up to seven points, only for the Aggies to come down the floor and score.

SDSU finally broke through in the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run, fueled by a pair of Houpt threes.

The Aggies were led by Cheyenne Stubb’s 20 points.

SDSU outscored Utah State 46-30 in the paint. It was the Aztecs’ most points in the paint since their conference opener vs. Boise State Dec. 29.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs outrebounded the Aggies 38-25 and had a 15-5 advantage on the offensive glass.

THE NOTE
SDSU improved to 15-2 when three or more players score in double-digits.
