Aztecs Place Ninth at San Diego State Classic

SDSU was led by Ema Narita and Kylie Phi who both finished with a six-over-par 222, which put them in a tie for 21st.

SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women’s golf team completed the San Diego State Classic at The Heights Golf Club Monday. The Aztecs finished in ninth place with a 29-over-par 893.

SDSU was led by Ema Narita and Kylie Phi who both finished with a six-over-par 222, which put them in a tie for 21st. Phi improved her score in each round and shot an even-par 72 Tuesday.

Narita followed up her 71 in the second round with a two-over-par 74 Tuesday.

Freshman Emilia Omander, who was playing as an individual, finished third among Aztecs with a career-low eight-over-par 224. She shot a 75 (+3) Tuesday, the second best 18-hole score of her young career.

Nikki Kato also had a pair of career-best scores. She finished one stroke behind Omander with a 227 on the strength of an even par 72 in her final round. She had a team-best five birdies Tuesday.

Maya Benita, a graduate transfer from Arizona who was making her first career start as an Aztec, finished with a 230 after shooting a 76 and 77s in back-to-back rounds.

Stephanie Barbaglia carded a 233 while freshman Emma Delwes shot a 253 while playing as an individual.

Stanford, the No. 1 team in the country, won the tournament after shooting a 31-under-par 833. Their Meja Ortengren was the individual champion with a 15-under-par 201.
