Aztecs in Eighth Place Through Two Rounds at SDSU Classic

SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women’s golf team finished the first day of the San Diego State Classic at The Heights Golf Club Monday. Through two rounds, the Aztecs are in eighth place with a 22-over-par 598.

SDSU is led by Ema Narita, who is tied for 21st with a four-over-par 148. After shooting a 77 in the opening round, she carded a one-under-par 71 in the second. She had three birdies, all of which were on par fours, to offset two bogeys.

Freshman Emilia Omander had the best day of her young career, finishing with a five-over-par 149. while playing as an individual. She started the day with a career-low even par 72 before shooting a 77. She is tied for 27th place after 36 holes.

Fellow freshman Kylie Phi sits one stroke behind Omander with a six-over-par 150. She had rounds of 76 and 74 on the day.

Stephanie Barbaglia had the Aztecs’ second-best score in the opening round after shooting a 73 that included three birdies on the back nine. She shot a 79 in her second round.

Maya Benita, a graduate transfer from Arizona who was making her first career start as an Aztec, finished with a nine-over-par 153 after shooting a 76 and 77.

Nikki Kato finished the day with an 11-over-par 155. She tied Phi for the second best score among Aztecs with a two-over-par 74 in the second round.

Freshman Emma Delwes shot a 164 while playing as an individual.

Stanford, the No. 1 team in the country, is in the lead after shooting a 28-under-par 548. Their Meja Ortengren is the clubhouse leader with a 14-under-par 130. She shot a 10-under-par 62 in her second round.
