FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – San Diego State's Valentina Lopez Arevalo continued her stellar season with a victory in platform competition on Saturday to lead the Aztecs during the final event of the Lumberjack Diving Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University.
With her triumph, Lopez Arevalo captured the event title at the same meet for the fourth consecutive year, giving her 11 individual crowns this season.
Participating in her signature event, Lopez Arevalo compiled a winning total of 314.80 points in the final round, shattering an NCAA zone qualifying mark (225.00) and easily outpacing the second-place competitor Catalina Devia of host NAU (246.90). The SDSU senior maintained her lofty perch after finishing atop the preliminary standings with a score of 298.95.
Along with Lopez Arevalo's success, the Aztecs advanced two additional divers to the platform finals on Saturday at Wall Aquatic Center.
Taylor Konopacke finished seventh with a final-round tally of 230.60, while Summer Westmoreland followed right behind in eighth (206.85). The SDSU teammates eclipsed NCAA zone qualifying standards in the preliminaries where Westmoreland (234.45) landed in the seventh spot, just ahead of Konopacke (232.80), who set a season best in the early session.
The Aztec contingent also featured Flagstaff native Alina Skrocki, who claimed her third straight consolation title of the weekend after compiling 249.70 points to surpass an NCAA qualifying mark of her own.
The San Diego State swim and dive program will shift its focus to the Mountain West Championships, slated for Feb. 19-22 in Houston, Texas. The Aztecs are aiming for their fourth consecutive conference title and sixth in the last seven years.
