Aztecs at Wyoming Saturday

The San Diego State women’s basketball team plays at Wyoming Saturday at 1 p.m. PT. The Aztecs are 5-1 on the road this year, the first time they’ve won five of their first six road games since the 1996-97 season.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team plays at Wyoming Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.

 

Aztec Tidbits

  • SDSU is coming off an 81-62 win at Nevada Wednesday evening.
  • It was SDSU’s largest margin of victory in Reno and just their fifth win in 16 tries there.
  • The Aztecs shot 56.6% from the field, their highest ever in a Mountain West road game (206 games). It was their best in any game since Nov. 27, 2016 (60.4% vs. Central Connecticut).
  • SDSU shot 63.4% (26-for-41) on two-pointers.
  • The Aztecs are 5-1 on the road this year, the first time they’ve won five of their first six road games since the 1996-97 season.
  • SDSU is one of four Mountain West teams with a NET ranking in the top 100 (UNLV, Colorado State and Wyoming).
  • The Aztecs are 5-2 against the teams that are top 115 in the NET rankings and have five more games remaining against teams in the top 115.
  • SDSU is sixth in the nation in bench points per game (34.9). 48.9% of the Aztecs’ scoring comes from their bench.

Player Notes

  • Veronica Sheffey scored 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting at Nevada Wednesday. She also led the team with a plus/minus of +24 and committed just one turnover in 33 minutes.
  • Sheffey is leading SDSU with 15.0 points per game on 62.5% shooting in their four Mountain West games.
  • Sheffey has scored in double-digits 10 times, the most on the team.
  • Adryana Quezada scored a season-high 20 points at Nevada Wednesday with 12 coming in their fourth quarter on 5-for-5 shooting.
  • Quezada has over 700 rebounds in her career and is just three points away from reaching 1,500.
  • Quezada is one of eight players nationally to have over 1,400 points & 700 rebounds while shooting at least 50% from the field and 70% from the line.
  • Cali Clark is fourth in the nation among active players in rebounds per minute (minimum 75 games).
  • Clark played in 109 games for Colorado State and had 10 or more rebounds six times. She has done it eight times in 17 games with the Aztecs.
  • Clark is one of six players in the nation with at least 30 steals and 25 blocks. She recorded her 100th career block at Nevada Wednesday.
  • Clark is second in the Mountain West in blocks, third in rebounds and sixth in steals.
  • Naomi Panganiban is averaging 15.3 points over her last eight games.
  • She has won Mountain West Freshman of the Week twice.
  • Kim Villalobos is one of seven players in the nation with at least 1,100 points, 700 rebounds, 200 assists, 150 steals and 75 blocks in her career.
  • Villalobos is in the top ten in SDSU history in games, rebounds and blocks.
  • Villalobos has played in 136 games, the second most in program history. If she stays healthy, she will surpass Sophia Ramos for the most games played in school history (141).
  • She made her 100th career start at Nevada Wednesday.
  • Erin Houpt is the only player in the nation to shoot at least 40% from three and 90% from the line in her career.
  • Houpt is 93.0% (159-171) from the line in her career, the best in the nation (minimum 100 made free throws).
  • Houpt’s 42.0% career three-point percentage is 11th in the nation among qualified players. She is 21-for-44 (47.7%) from three this season.

 

Opponent Notebook (Wyoming)

  • The Cowgirls are 8-7 on the year.
  • They are 2-1 in their first three conference games, beating Utah State and Fresno State and losing at New Mexico.
  • They are 4-1 at home.
  • They are ranked No. 98 in the NET, four spots below the Aztecs.
