SAN DIEGO – San Diego State will send a delegation of six student-athletes to compete at the Lancer Diving Invitational, Jan. 9-11, in Riverside, California.
Along with host California Baptist, the Aztecs are scheduled to face divers from the University of San Diego, Colorado State, Chapman, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Northern Arizona. Individual results from SDSU, USD and CSU will be factored into final team scores for those three squads that are also squaring off in an invitational-style swim meet at the Toreros’ home pool on Jan. 11.
Preliminary action on all three days from Riverside Aquatics Center is slated to begin at 11 a.m. PT, and results may be accessed on DiveMeets.com.
The Aztec contingent includes Taylor Konopacke, Valentina Lopez Arevalo, Jessica Schroeder, Alini Skrocki, Summer Westmoreland and Olivia Zamudio, all of whom are pegged for 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events, as well as platform competition.
This weekend’s Lancer Diving Invitational commences on Thursday with the preliminaries and finals of the women’s 3-meter springboard, along with women’s team diving finals.
Additionally, Friday’s slate features the preliminaries and finals of the women's platform event, before the invitational concludes on Saturday with another two rounds of the women's 1-meter springboard.
Schroeder and Konopacke were the only two SDSU divers to compete in a double dual meet at home on Jan. 7, helping the Aztecs sweep past Colorado College (116-106) and Cal State East Bay (104-89) and raise their record to 9-0 on the season.
Konopacke tallied a career-high score of 282.90 to win the 3-meter springboard on Tuesday, while Schroeder was close second with a season-best total of 282.60, with both marks surpassing NCAA zone qualifying standards.
Later in the meet, Schroeder traded placements with her SDSU teammate, capturing the 1-meter title with a collegiate-best total of 274.73 to eclipse another NCAA zone qualifying score, while Konopacke also notched a career-high mark of 256.73 to finish second.
Schroeder (280.10) was also victorious in 3-meter competition in the Aztecs’ home whitewash of New Mexico and Pepperdine, while Lopez Arevalo was triumphant on the 1-meter board with a season total of 296.50.
Last month at the Riverside Collegiate Invitational, the same venue as this weekend’s meet, Lopez Arevalo claimed an event title from the platform height, while Summer Westmoreland (platform, 1-meter) and Alina Skrocki (3-meter) logged runner-up finishes.
Following the Lancer Invitational, San Diego State divers will return to action with their swimming teammates on Saturday, Jan. 25, for a dual meet vs. the University of San Diego at Aztec Aquaplex, starting at 9 a.m. PT.
