SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse is gearing up for its 2025 campaign, which unofficially kicks off on Friday at 4 p.m. in an exhibition game against Pomona-Pitzer at the Aztec Field. The Scarlet and Black will then be on the road for the regular season opener against Detroit Mercy on Friday, February 7 at 1 p.m. PT. San Diego State will represent the Big 12 in its inaugural season, which gets underway on March 29 against Colorado.
Led by Kylee White in her 14th season as head coach, the 2025 roster consists of 21 returners, eight freshmen and three transfers.
“We’re excited about the versatility and depth that we have in each position,” said Coach White. “They’ve been working extremely hard together in the preseason, and they’re very focused on our goals. I’m looking forward to getting the season underway with this group.”
The Captains
Senior midfielder Sara Toner, who was the team’s leading scorer during the 2024 season, is a key returner for the Aztecs. Named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, Toner is coming off a breakout season where she scored 39 goals, which is the seventh most by an Aztec in a single season.
Joining Toner on captain duty is junior Reilly Hunter, who will lead the defense. During the 2024 campaign, Hunter recorded 14 ground balls, 15 draw controls and six caused turnovers.
Junior attacker Nikki Seven totaled 11 goals, five assists and nine ground balls during the 2024 season and looks to make an impact as a leader for the team on the offensive end.
Senior midfielder Emma Betts rounds out the 2025 captain selections. Betts appeared in the starting lineup 14 times last season, scoring 17 goals with 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
The Key Returners
Frankie Garcia is a key returner for San Diego State. She was the second leading goal scorer for the Aztecs in 2024, totaling 27 off 67 shots, 52 of which were on goal. She also recorded seven assists, 16 ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
Caitlin Boughton returns to this year’s roster with seven starting appearances in the goal under her belt from 2024. She recorded 121 saves, 17 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Kate Christos looks to build off her sophomore season, where she scored 12 goals and tallied eight assists, 17 ground balls, 48 draw controls and six caused turnovers. She captured a career-high three goals at Xavier on February 11.
The Transfers
#1 Talie Richardson: Graduate Student | Midfield | Central Connecticut State University
Richardson is a grad transfer from Central Connecticut State University, where she was a two-time NEC Prime Performer, earning All-NEC Second Team honors.
#20 Carly Sullivan: Graduate Student | Defense | Pomona-Pitzer
Sullivan is a grad transfer out of Pomona-Pitzer, where she played for three years. Awards and honors include IWLCA 2024 All-American Third Team (2024), SCIAC 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, 2024 Scholar Athlete of the Year, 2023/24 First Team All-SCIAC, 2024 IWLCA First Team All-Region, 2023 IWLCA Second Team All-Region and 2023 SCIAC Championship Game MVP.
#24 Matty Spaeth: Junior | Attack | Boston University
Spaeth spent her first two seasons at Boston University, where she recorded 58 goals and seven assists. She also received Patriot League Rookie of the Week on March 14, 2022.
The Freshmen
#0 Karli Weisser: Goalkeeper | Oakridge High School
Weisser played on the 33rd ranked high school lacrosse team in the nation at Oak Ridge in El Dorado Hills, Calif. She was named to the Adrenaline All-American Team and earned Norcal All-Star honors.
#9 Presley Mitchell: Midfield | Severna Park High School
La Costa Canyon High School four-year letterwinner and three-time MVP. She earned her team’s Offensive Player of the Year award as well as First Team All-CIF honors three years in a row.
#17 Mia Maechtel: Attack | The Hill Academy
Two-time Athlete of the Year at The Hill Academy. She was a United LAX League points leader, champion at the All-Canada Games and runner-up at the Canada Cup.
#18 Lucy Moore: Midfield | Warren Township High School
Warren Township High School four-year letterwinner. She boasts 257 career goals, 68 assists and 236 draw controls, holding her school’s record in all categories.
#25 Maya Tillman: Defense | Greenwich Academy
Greenwich Academy three-year letterwinner. She won a lacrosse league championship in 2024 and earned FAA Honorable Mention.
#26 Sophia Bruzzone: Defense | Carondelet High School
Captain of the Carondelet High School lacrosse team. She also spent three years playing for the Tenacity Project club team in Utah.
#34 Keira Doyle-Odenbach: Midfield | Carl Sandburg High School
Carl Sandburg High School four-year letterwinner, earning All-Sectional Team and First Team All-Conference honors, as well as First Team All-State honors in her final two seasons. She recorded 305 career goals, 92 assists, 343 ground balls, 265 caused turnovers and 503 draw controls. She also earned USA Lacrosse All-America and All-Academic honors in 2024.
#46 Grace Moore: Goalkeeper | Palos Verdes High School
Holds the Palos Verdes High School all-time saves record with 614 during her career. She earned Bay League Second Team honors her freshman and sophomore years and First Team as a junior and senior, earning Defensive MVP as well. She garnered USA Lacrosse All-America honors in 2022 and 2023, and was an Under Armor Player to Watch from 2022-2024.
