FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – A delegation of four San Diego State divers completed the first wave of action at the Lumberjack Invitational on Thursday, as Valentina Lopez Arevalo finished fourth on the 3-meter springboard to lead the Aztecs at Wall Aquatic Center.
SDSU advanced two event competitors to the final round where Lopez Arevalo eclipsed an NCAA zone qualifying mark with 295.40 points, climbing three spots into the fourth position after placing seventh in the preliminaries (285.85).
Summer Westmoreland also surpassed an NCAA zone qualifying standard in the preliminaries with a score of 288.45 points but slipped into eighth after compiling a final-round total of 255.75.
Elsewhere, Flagstaff native Alina Skrocki captured the consolation title after recording an NCAA zone qualifying mark of her own with 286.10 points. The Aztec sophomore just missed a spot in the finals after finishing 10th in the preliminary round (260.55).
The Aztec contingent also included Taylor Konopacke, who was slotted 11th (254.50) in the preliminaries just behind Skrocki before placing fifth in the consolation finals (241.10).
The Lumberjack Diving Invitational resumes on Friday for San Diego State with the preliminaries and finals of the 1-meter springboard, starting at 10:30 a.m. MT/9:30 a.m. PT.
The meet includes competitors from Northern Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico and New Mexico State.
