COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State’s Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) has been named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week. It is the second career MW Golfer-of-the-Week Award for the senior.
Hastings tied for second out of 75 golfers at the Southwestern Invitational earlier this week at 4-under-par 209. Hastings finished just one stroke behind medalist Wells Williams of Vanderbilt, shooting 69, 71 and 69 on the par-71, 7,076-yard Sherwood Country Club in Lake Sherwood, California.
Hastings led the Aztecs to a runner-up finish in a 14-team field that included seven teams in the top 25. SDSU, which is 32nd in the latest NCAA computer rankings, finished at 7-under 845, one stroke behind No. 5 Texas (-8). San Diego State finished ahead of notable programs No. 15 Vanderbilt (-4), No. 19 Pepperdine (E), No. 14 Florida (+5), No. 43 USC (+11), No. 44 UNLV (+11), No. 24 Duke (+12), No. 10 UCLA (+27) and No. 11 Arizona (+32) and four other teams.
It’s been quite the month for Hastings, who on Jan. 18 captured the 2025 Latin American Amateur Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, receiving an invitation to compete in the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and exemptions into The Open and the U.S. Open.
Hastings leads the Aztecs with a 71.27 scoring average this season across five tournaments and 15 rounds. His 71.43 career average through 111 rounds is the best in recorded program history (since at least 1993-94), just ahead of Xander Schauffele’s 71.50 set from 2013-15.
SDSU next competes in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course Hokuala, Feb. 13-15, in Lihue, Hawaii.
