SAN DIEGO – Junior Lauren Harper has been named the Mountain West Athlete of the Week after a record-filled weekend in Seattle. It is the second consecutive week a San Diego State student-athlete has earned the award to begin the indoor season. The league office announced its weekly awards Tuesday.

Harper ran in the 800m race on Friday and the open section of the mile at the University of Washington this past weekend.

In the 800m, she crossed the line in 2:09.43 to finish fifth overall in the field. The time represents an SDSU senior class record surpassing Mandy Upuu’s mark set in the same city during the 2008 indoor season. It also ranks fastest in the Mountain West this season.

The Weaverville, Calif. native continued her tremendous weekend in the Mile City event on Saturday. Finishing with a time of 4:55.33, she won the open section of the event with 216 total runners. The mark is fourth fastest in SDSU indoor history and currently ranks fifth best in the conference this year.

This is Harper’s first career weekly honor.
