RIVERSIDE, Calif. – San Diego State’s Valentina Lopez Arevalo made it a weekend sweep on Saturday by winning the 1-meter springboard competition to wrap up the Lancer Diving Invitational at Riverside Aquatics Center.
With her triumph, Lopez Arevalo captured her third straight event title after taking home the 3-meter crown on Thursday, followed by a victory from the platform eight on Friday.
Lopez Arevalo vaulted from the third spot in the 1-meter preliminary round, finishing with a score of 289.15 in the finals to edge Northern Arizona’s Victoria Knapp (287.90) by just 1.25 points. The Aztec senior seized momentum in her first attempt of the finals, collecting 53.30 points for the 105B dive to highlight her eighth win of the season. Not to be outdone, she also surpassed an NCAA zone qualifying standard for the round.
Meanwhile, Summer Westmoreland was the only other top-10 placer for the Scarlet and Black on Saturday, posting a final-round total of 245.95 to finish seventh.
Elsewhere, Taylor Konopacke (227.50) landed in the 12th position, while Alina Skrocki (221.30) and Olivia Zamudio (216.15) were slotted 14th and 15th, respectively.
San Diego State divers will return to the competition pool on Saturday, Jan. 25, when the Aztecs reconvene with their swimming teammates for a dual meet against the University of San Diego at Aztec Aquaplex. Prior to the meet, which is slated for a 9 a.m. PT start, SDSU will conduct a special ceremony to highlight Senior Day festivities.
