RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Competing in her signature event, San Diego State’s Valentina Lopez Arevalo continued her stellar season on Friday by capturing the platform title at the Lancer Diving Invitational at Riverside Aquatics Center.
With her victory, Lopez Arevalo earned her second straight event crown of the meet after winning the 3-meter springboard competition on Thursday. The Aztec senior totaled 287.85 points in the platform finals, easily outdistancing runner-up Audrey Easter of California Baptist (240.05) by nearly 48 points for her sixth individual title of the season.
In addition, Lopez Arevalo eclipsed another NCAA zone qualifying standard with her performance, which featured a score of 62.35 for the 205B dive on her fifth attempt of the finals.
Two additional SDSU competitors surpassed NCAA zone qualifying marks on Friday, including Summer Westmoreland, who placed fourth in the finals with a score of 227.20, followed closely by Taylor Konopacke’s fifth-place total of 225.60.
Rounding out the Aztec delegation was Olivia Zamudio, who logged a seventh-place finish with 206.75 points.
San Diego State wraps up its excursion to the Lancer Diving Invitational with 1-meter springboard competition on Saturday. Preliminaries are scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. PT, followed by final-round action later in the afternoon.
