SAN DIEGO – The 9-1 San Diego State women’s basketball team plays at Cal State Fullerton Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

 

Aztec Tidbits

  • The Aztecs are coming off a 107-36 win over Bethesda Friday. 6,905 fans were in attendance, shattering the previous single-game attendance record of 5,320.
  • SDSU’s 107 points was their sixth most ever and most in a game since the 1984-85 season. Their 71-point margin of victory was their third largest in program history.
  • The Aztecs made 13 three-pointers, including six from freshman Naomi Panganiban, their most in a game since Nov. 9, 2021 (also 13). They made 40 field goals overall, 26 of which were assisted, which is their most in the Mountain West era (since 1999).
  • As of Monday, the Aztecs are ranked No. 61 in the NET. This is second among Mountain West schools (UNLV) and 17th among mid major programs.
  • SDSU leads the Mountain West in both points per game (74.9) and points allowed per game (55.4).
  • The last time the Aztecs averaged 70 or more points per game was the 1991-92 season.
  • SDSU leads the conference in free throws made (15.3) and attempted (20.4) and is second in free throw percentage (75%).
  • The Aztecs lead the Mountain West in three-point percentage (36.4%) but attempts the fewest per game (16.5).
  • SDSU is averaging just 12.9 turnovers per game, 25th in the nation. They’ve had less turnovers than their opponent in every game but one and are averaging 7.7 less turnovers than their opposition per game (23rd nationally).
  • The Aztecs have held their opponent under 40% shooting in seven of their 10 games and have had a better field goal percentage than their opponent eight times.
  • SDSU has shown off their depth with 10 Aztecs averaging at least 10 minutes per game and 11 different players have had a game with double-digit points.
  • 47.8% of the Aztecs’ scoring has come from their bench. Their 35.8 bench points per game is the sixth most in the nation.
  • SDSU had 73 bench points vs. Bethesda Friday, the second most by any school in Mountain West history.
  • Six Aztecs average between eight and 12 points per game.
  • SDSU has won their first three road games for the first time since 2009-10.
  • The Aztecs’ 249 points on the road are their most through three games since having 256 to begin the 1988-89 season.
  • SDSU began the season 8-0, their best start since the 1988-89 season when SDSU started 14-0.
  • Since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, the Aztecs are 29-4 (.879) when they score 70 or more points and 46-9 (.836) when they score 60 or more.
  • Since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, SDSU is 31-7 (.816) in home games.

 

Player Notes

  • Adryana Quezada became the first Aztec in the Mountain West era (since 1999) to have at least 15 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and five steals in a game.
  • Quezada surpassed both 1,400 points and 700 rebounds for her career Friday.
  • Quezada is one of six players in the nation to have over 1,400 points and 700 rebounds while shooting at least 50% from the field and 70% from the line.
  • Kim Villalobos is one of eight players in the nation with at least 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 175 assists, 150 steals and 75 blocks in her career.
  • Villalobos is in the top ten in SDSU history in games, rebounds and blocks.
  • On Friday, Villalobos played in her 129th game, the second most in program history. If she stays healthy, she will surpass Sophia Ramos for the most games played in school history (141).
  • Last year Villalobos was the only player in the Mountain West to finish in the top 10 in rebounds, steals and blocks.
  • Last year Villalobos became only the second Aztec in the Mountain West era to have at least 300 points, 200 rebounds, 75 assists and 50 steals in a season.
  • Cali Clark is second in the nation among active players in rebounds per minute (minimum 75 games).
  • Clark had six games with 10 or more rebounds in 109 games at Colorado State and has done it seven times in 10 games with the Aztecs.
  • At Cal State Bakersfield, Clark became the first Aztec with 16 or more rebounds since March 2, 2019 (Mallory Adams vs. New Mexico. She was also the first Aztec with nine or more offensive rebounds since Nov. 24, 2017 (Baylee Vanderdoes vs. Central Michigan).
  • Clark has tied a career-high with three steals in each of her last two games. She also set a new career-high with five assists Friday.
  • Naomi Panganiban’s 27 points were the most by an Aztec true freshman since Sophia Ramos scored 28 at CSUN Dec. 9, 2018.
  • Panganiban became the first true freshman to start the season opener for SDSU since 2018 (Sophia Ramos and Mallory Adams).
  • Against Wisconsin, Veronica Sheffey became just the sixth Aztec in the Mountain West era (1999-present) to have at least 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in a game.
  • Nat Martinez was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week in back-to-back weeks to become the second Aztec to ever win that award in back-to-back weeks (Asia Avinger).
  • Erin Houpt is the only player in the nation to shoot at least 40% from three and 90% from the line in her career.
  • Houpt is 92.5% (147-159) from the line in her career, the second best in the nation (minimum 100 made free throws).
  • Houpt’s 41.9% career three-point percentage is ninth in the nation among qualified players. She is 10-for-19 (53%) from three this season.
  • Jazlen Green is 8-for-12 (66.7%) from three and at one point made six in a row. She was 0-for-19 from three last season.
  • Three Aztecs set new career-highs for points Friday (Panganiban, 27), Bailey Barnhard, 12) and Ellie Chen, 8), while two others tied their career-highs (Kaelyn Hamilton, 8) and Natalija Grizelj, 3).

  • Aaliyah Stanton leads the team with 11.7 points per game.

  • The Aztecs lead the all-time series 24-18.

  • Prior to that, SDSU had won 11 straight meetings.
  • The two programs were in the same conference together from 1977-1990. First in the Western Collegiate and then in the Big West. SDSU went 13-15 against Fullerton in that span.
