SAN DIEGO – San Diego State volleyball player Shea Rubright was named to the all-tournament team after the conclusion of the 2024 Mountain West Championship on Nov. 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In two matches last week, Rubright led the tournament with a .640 hitting percentage, blasting 16 kills in 25 attempts without an error. The Aztec middle blocker also topped all competitors with eight block assists on the week while serving up a pair of aces.
In SDSU’s quarterfinal clash against No. 4 seed Fresno State on Nov. 27, Rubright hit at a .714 clip, posting 10 kills in 14 swings without a miscue while contributing a match-high six block assists. Seven of her kills and three of her blocks were recorded in the final two sets, helping the Scarlet and Black eliminate the Bulldogs and clinch a spot in the semifinals vs. Colorado State.
Two days later against the top-seeded Rams, Rubright totaled six additional kills and two blocks, hitting .545 for the match, though SDSU fell short in a tough four-set battle.
Prior to the conference championship, Rubright was tabbed Mountain West Newcomer of the Year, giving the Aztec program its second such recipient after Michelle Waber was honored in 2012. In addition, the SDSU graduate transfer earned a spot on the all-conference team.
In her lone season with the Aztecs, Rubright set a school record with a .461 hitting percentage, which leads the nation as of Dec. 2. She started all 30 matches for the Scarlet and Black, averaging 2.22 kills and 1.14 blocks per set, the latter of which ranks sixth in the MW, while serving up a team-high 34 aces.
During the 2024 campaign, Rubright knocked down double-digit kills in 11 matches and collected five or more blocks on 13 occasions, including a career-high 11 rejections vs. UNLV on Oct. 22, when she tied her collegiate best with three solo stops.
Rubright logged two of the league’s top hitting percentages this year (min. 12 kills), including a .667 clip vs. Tulane (Sept. 7) and a .640 efficiency against Portland State (Sept. 6.) during which she launched a career-high 17 kills.
San Diego State finished the 2024 campaign with a 20-10 record, its best since 2012. Along with Rubright, opposite hitter Taylor Underwood was also selected to the all-MW team, while outside hitter Jasmine Davis received honorable mention.
