COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Naomi Panganiban of the San Diego State women’s basketball team was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced. It’s the second straight week that Panganiban has won the award and fourth time an Aztec has won it (Nat Martinez twice).
The San Diegan averaged 21.0 points in SDSU's two games last week. Panganiban shot 44% from the field (13-for-36) and 50% from three (7-for-14). While playing the point, she had just two turnovers in 64 minutes.
In SDSU’s double overtime loss to Stephen F. Austin, she had 18 points and then she had 24 points in the Aztecs’ come from behind win over Hawai'i. She scored nine of SDSU’s 19 field goals in that game.
Panganiban, who is SDSU’s leading scorer is averaging 21.5 points while shooting 60 percent from three over her last four games.
The 11-2 Aztecs have won four of the seven Freshman of the Week awards. They begin conference play Dec. 29 when they host Boise State.
