SAN DIEGO – San Diego State Lacrosse Head Coach Kylee White has announced Sara Toner, Reilly Hunter, Nikki Seven and Emma Betts as the 2025 team captains.

“We are so excited to announce the captains for the 2025 lacrosse season,” said Coach White. “After careful consideration and input from their teammates, these captains have been selected for their leadership, dedication and commitment to this team's success.”

Senior midfielder Sara Toner was a starter in 14 games last season and was the leading goal scorer for the Aztecs. She amassed 39 total, finding the back of the net in all 16 games. In 2023, Toner made 15 appearances, drawing three starts and scoring 15 goals. As a redshirt freshman in 2022, Toner scored one goal in four appearances. She is a three-time San Diego State Scholar Athlete and was also named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll in 2024.

“Sara’s experience and optimistic approach gives her teammates confidence to be the best they can be,” said Coach White. “She is a strong and positive leader, demonstrating the values of our team culture on and off the field. Her teammates view her as uplifting, motivating and encouraging.”

Joining Toner on captain duty is junior defender Reilly Hunter. Hunter started in all 16 games of the 2024 season, recording 14 ground balls, 15 draw controls and six caused turnovers. Hunter utilized a redshirt year in 2022 before appearing in 10 games in 2023. She earned 2024 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll recognition and is a San Diego State Scholar Athlete.

“Reilly will lead the defense with her calm and confident demeanor. She does an amazing job holding her teammates accountable while also being able to lighten the mood. She has built trust and has become someone who everyone can rely on. Her lacrosse IQ and her ability to connect with her teammates has made her the glue of the defense.”

Junior attacker Nikki Seven will fill the third captain spot. Seven made fifteen appearances in the 2024 season, totaling 11 goals, five assists and nine ground balls. Before utilizing a medical redshirt in 2023, Seven appeared in four games during her freshman season in 2022, scoring a goal in the team’s win over Columbia. Seven was also named to the 2024 IWLCA Honor Roll and is a San Diego State Scholar Athlete.

“Nikki has done an incredible job as a leader this fall with her strong sense of strategy and an unwavering commitment to the team. She is known for her ability to communicate and inspire others. She helps ensure that every member of the team is motivated, focused and capable of anything they put their minds to. She shares her passion for the sport and love for this program on a daily basis and is a true vocal leader.”

The fourth and final captain for the 2025 season is senior midfielder Emma Betts. Betts appeared in the starting lineup 14 times last season, scoring 17 goals with 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers. In 2023, she played in all 16 games and drew three starts, scoring 18 points from 14 goals and four assists. She also had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. As a freshman, Betts played in 12 games and scored four goals.

“Emma is the embodiment of what it means to lead by example. She brings energy, determination and an unmatched work ethic every day. She is a true commetitor that leads with integrity and heart. She is a role model on and off the field through the way she plays the game and the way she treats her teammates.”

The four captains will lead the Aztecs in their first season as part of the Big 12 Conference, which officially kicks off on Feb. 7 at Detroit Mercy after a home exhibition against Pomona Pitzer on Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. PT.
