SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis is set for the last day of the SDSU Fall Classic after posting seven more wins on Saturday and advancing to the finals in five separate draws.
Jo-Yee Chan and Ninon Martinache got the morning started with a 6-4 doubles semifinal victory over Silvia Maria Costache and Petra Janigova of Nevada.
After sweeping the first round of singles on Friday, the Aztecs followed up with a 6-1 record on Saturday.
Gloria Alogo and Ninon Martinache each won their semifinal matches in the Red Draw. Alogo took down MiaAngelina Ruja of Saint Mary’s College 6-2, 6-2, while Martinache also won in straight sets, defeating Nevada’s Silvia Maria Costache 6-1, 6-4.
Zoe Olmos fought her way to a two-set victory over Colorado State’s Logan Voeks to claim her spot in the Black Draw final, winning a close tiebreaker 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). In the same draw, Liisa Varul picked up a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win against Stefanie Silva of Saint Mary’s College.
In the White Draw, Vesa Gjinaj defeated Nevada’s Lou Anne Guerbert 6-4, 6-3.
Jo-Yee Chan was the sixth Aztec to advance in singles after a walkover in her scheduled match against Valerie Glozman of Stanford.
In SDSU’s only dropped matches of the day, Charlotte Roesch came up just short against Saint Mary’s Olivia Rook, battling in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 4-6. Alogo and Varul were also bested 3-6 in their doubles semifinal matchup against Stanford’s Ma/Glozman.
Final round matches get started at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
