SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team kicked off their 2024-25 season with a 76-48 win over Cal State San Marcos inside Viejas Arena Monday evening.
“It was exciting to get out on the floor and play against someone else,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “If we can play with a sense of urgency and share the ball at a high level, I think this is going to be a great year for us.”
The Aztecs never trailed in the game and forced 28 turnovers which led to 36 points.
Erin Houpt (13), Adryana Quezada (12), Kim Villalobos (11) and Khylee Pepe (10) all scored in double-digits and Quezada had a double-double with 12 rebounds. Cali Clark also had double-digit rebounds with 10.
SDSU showed off their depth with 11 players seeing action in the opening quarter and eight scoring. The Aztecs made their first five shots and doubled up the Cougars 24-12 in the opening 10 minutes.
SDSU’s shooting cooled in the second quarter, but they were able to hold the Cougars to six points to keep their lead in double-digits.
The closest the Cougars would get in the second half was 17 points.
The Aztecs outscored San Marcos 40-26 in the paint and had a 36-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

Naomi Panganiban became the first Aztec true freshman to start a season opener since 2018 (Sophia Ramos and Mallory Adams).
